In 2009 acclaimed street artist JR created the "Women Are Heroes" art installation on the roofs of the most violent African slum, Kibera, Kenya. After years of neglect, the roofs were beginning to deteriorate. To help the people of Kibera, in 2015 Deutsch NY and Water is Life replaced these roofs and took the art to be sold at auction in LA and Paris. The proceeds from the sale of the art went directly back into Kibera to help bring clean water wells, sanitation, and education to a population in desperate need.
